Loving The Skin I'm In
Aim: This programme targets girls struggling with issues such as unhealthy eating habits, poor body image or low self-esteem. It is also extremely effective for pupils who are self-harming.
Target: The project is designed to empower and educate girls between the ages of 11 and 15 to lead healthy lifestyles - mental, emotional, and physical.
It should be used as a preventative measure, and it can significantly improve the quality of these young peoples lives by helping them to adopt a healthier way of living, eating, thinking and behaving.
It covers the following areas:
- Healthy eating
- Mental & emotional well being
- Body image
- Sexual health
- Your choices and responsibility
- Breaking unhealthy habits
- Raising your self-esteem and increasing self-confidence
- What it means to live a healthy lifestyle
- An examination of media perceptions of beauty
- Disordered eating & eating disorders
- Managing stress
'Loving The Skin I’m In' was originally funded by the Big Lottery during 2009. It was such a phenomenal success that we have received an overwhelming response from schools wanting to sign up for the project this year. In fact, it was so successful that we wrote a book about it!
